THE USHER MONUMENT IN DUNDRUM [ALSO KNOWN AS THE USHER MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN]

The Usher Memorial, also known as the Usher Monument, is a historical landmark located in Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland. It commemorates Dr Isaac Usher, a respected local general practitioner who tragically died in 1917, one of the first motor vehicle fatalities in Ireland.

The monument is a stone obelisk that originally featured a water fountain with troughs for both people and animals. Although the troughs have since been filled in, the monument remains a prominent feature in Dundrum. It stands as a testament to Dr Usher's contributions to the community and serves as a reminder of the changing times with the advent of the motor car.

Due to a legal clause established by Dr Usher's friends who erected the monument, it cannot be moved from its current location, even with ongoing development in the Dundrum area.
